First Post: December 20th, 2013

Oh dear, I guess I should introduce this, in case anyone reads it.

I love dogs. I love crafts: sewing, knitting, etc. Naturally, I make most of the coats for the dogs of my family; however, I've been having a difficult time finding patterns (sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc.) for dog clothes, harnesses, beds, toys, etc. I've found some cool stuff, but its pretty spread out.

I have also had problems finding patterns in a range of sizes. I have a 1 lb. chihuahua puppy, my sister has a 3 1/2 lb. chihuahua (who is still growing), and my family has three border collies and a blue heeler. Needless to say, one size of pattern will not work for all of these dogs.

I thought it would be useful (hopefully for other people as well, but at least for me) to collect all of these patterns and ideas into one place. So, this marks the beginning of what will hopefully be an epic collection of all things crafty and canine.

If there is anyone reading this, please keep in mind that this is just a start. I am hoping to receive comments and/or questions. If anyone has a request, I would be more than happy to help track down and/or help modify a pattern.

Customizable Fleece Sweater Pattern: EASY

This is a pattern that I have used before for our most athletic dog. I made it last winter and it has worked out very well. Not only is the sweater still in tact, the dog in question absolutely loves it. In fact, sometimes he even sleeps in it.

This is a very versatile and customizable pattern. I intend to use this pattern again for his next sweater. There is, however, one thing that I am going to change when I make his next one. I am going to make it double-layered next time.

Sweater for a Very Small Dog: EASY

When I first saw this idea, I didn't think that I would ever use it. However, I now love this idea. My chihuahua puppy is very small, and this idea worked out perfectly for him. I did not make him a hat, but I love the sweater idea.

I had some Dr. Who socks that worked perfectly. Now my puppy has an adorable Dr. Who sweater. There are almost endless possibilities for this idea, if your dog is small enough to wear a sock as a sweater.

The sock that I used for this were straighter ad I was able to leave the elastic band on as a little turtleneck. I was able to do this because it was not tight on my puppy's neck. If the elastic is at all tight, I would recommend cutting it off, as seen in the original.

Tip: Make sure that the holes for the legs are close enough to the neck. If they are too far down, the sweater will not fit right.

The underside of the sock can also be cut out and the back shaped (so that it doesn't cover the dog's tummy).
